There is a legislative requirement under IRR 19, Statutory Instrument No. 30 of 2019 and S.I. No. 256 of 2018 that staff members involved in the practical aspects of medical radiological procedures must have adequate radiation protection training.

An approved training course has been organised by the Department of Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering and Department of Radiology, St. Vincent’s University Hospital.

The course covers the production of X-rays, the interaction of X-rays with tissue, legislative requirements and radiation protection. A practical demonstration of protection techniques will be given in the Department of Radiology.

The ½-day course will take place on Tuesday 21st January 2020 from 1pm to 4:45pm in the Education and Research Centre, St. Vincent’s University Hospital. The course fee is €100 for non SVHG staff.

Doctors who attend the full course will be given certificates of attendance and their names will be forwarded to the Medical Council.
