• Prof. Tufve Nyholm

Professor, Medical Physicist at Department of Radiation Sciences, Umeå University, Sweden

Tufve Nyholm is a professor in medical physics and head of the department of radiation sciences at Umeå University. The department includes oncology, radiology and medical physics. Nyholms primary research interest is use of MR in radiotherapy, both for treatment planning and for response assessment. The RT department in Umeå received their first dedicated MR scanner 14 years ago and now also have a dedicated PET/MR-RT scanner.

• Dr. Gerard O’Connor

Head of School of Physics, NUIG, Ireland

Gerard leads the NCLA laser research group at NUI Galway.  This group provides graduate research training in short pulse laser material interactions and works closely with industry on applied research projects.

Gerard has 61 Referreed Journal papers, 50+ refereed conference publications. Gerard is a funded investigators with SFI research centres CÚRAM Medical Devices, SFI I-FORM Additive Manufacturing and SFI -IPIC in Integrated Photonics. Gerard coordinates the EU project AtlanticKETMed.He has successfully supervised 11 PhD graduate students and 10 MSc Students. Gerard has research team of 6 postgraduates, 1 postdoc, 2 engineers and 1 Research manager.

• Dr. Jim O’ Doherty

Senior Scientist/R&D Collaboration Manager at Siemens Medical Solutions

Jim has extensive experience in the field of molecular imaging, including PET-CT, SPECT-CT and PET-MR from his time as a Prinicpal Physicist in Qatar and Singapore. While in Qatar, Jim oversaw the activation of a brand new Molecular Imaging site at the equally brand new Sidra Medical & Research Center in Doha, an ultramodern, all-digital academic medical center which will set new standards in patient care for women and children in Qatar, the Gulf region and internationally.

• Dr. Jim Malone

Robert Boyle Professor (Emeritus) of Medical Physics, Trinity College Dublin, and Consultant with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna.

Jim Malone is Robert Boyle Professor (Emeritus) of Medical Physics, Trinity College, Dublin, Consultant with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna, regular contributor at the European School of Medical Physics in Geneva and Director of the Robert Boyle Foundation. He was Dean of Medical School/Faculty of Health Sciences and Director of Graduate Studies at Trinity College, Chairman of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) committee that produces the global standards for medical imaging equipment, a board member of about 10 corporate bodies, Head of Medical Physics and Bioengineering at St James’s Hospital, Dublin, and an active researcher. He has wide interests in the humanities.
